Shelby Davidson

Shelby Davidson is not someone who is looked at as an inventor in many senses yet he is someone who had a lot of determination, perseverance, and he was very educated. Born in Kentucky in the year 1868 Shelby was destined for success since he came out of the wound. In fact, since he was born not too far after the Emancipation he had a lot of educational opportunities available to him that the generations before him did not have the pleasure of having. By 1887 Shelby Davidson was attending Howard University – a university that many students have a hard time getting into during this age in time.  However, while Shelby was in college he was accused of violating the university’s rules and his career was put on the ropes. He was expelled for dating a married woman yet Shelby’s determination allowed him to fight back and win his case which in return allowed him to receive his degree in 1896.

Based on that little spout Shelby decided he wanted to pursue a degree in law and many supported his decision. In 1899 he became a member of the Kentucky Bar and in 1900 he was a member of the District of Columbia Bar as well. Surprisingly, Shelby took his career in a different direction, however. He started off as a messenger at the post office and then he was soon promoted to Money Order Associate Class C. However, he did not stay at that position long either instead he was promoted several more times to reach higher levels within the post office.

Once in a position where he felt secure Shelby then decided that he wanted more out of life which lead to him created a device by the name of “The Paper Re-Wind”. The Paper Re-Wind was a device that served the purpose of allowing automatically rolling up paper so it could be stored an evaluated with ease at a later time. The best part is it even had a built in alarm that would sound when the paper strip was empty or broken. Shelby Davidson patented the Paper Re- Wind in 1908.
